New Gallery Exhibit at Art Truckee!

I have some great news... I am now exhibiting and selling out of Art Truckee in Downtown Truckee, California! It's been a couple of years since I've sold out of a Truckee gallery, but I am back at it! Art Truckee is a tiny little gallery in an old historic tiny building. It's perfect for two photographers to share the space, rent, and time spent at the gallery. Michelle Erskine is the other photographer in the gallery. She is another long time Truckee local who has many incredible photos of the Tahoe area as well.

Art Truckee is located at 9950 Donner Pass Road in historic Downtown Truckee. Right behind the famous Moody's Restaurant. We will be keeping the gallery open 11-5, Thursday - Sunday, and we may increase our hours as we approach the holidays.

Here are a few photos of the gallery.

New Prints at Gallery 5830' in Downtown Truckee

It was a very busy holiday season at Gallery 5830' in Downtown Truckee, California. And lately, I have been busy creating more prints, canvasses, and ordering more metal prints (My studio is not set up to print on metal). It's been great, new work is up on the walls at the gallery, so I thought I'd share a few photos.

Part of my canvas print process is coating the prints with a UV and water resistant glossy coating. I can also produce non-coated glossy prints, but they get damaged easily at galleries and by moving them around a lot so I have found that a nice protective coating is best.

You can see both of the prints above on the wall at the gallery now, along with many other new pieces. Nice and full again, ready to view, enjoy, and hopefully buy...

If you ever find yourself in Truckee, please feel free to contact me and I'll do my best to meet up with you at the gallery. There have been lots of little events and exhibit openings there lately. This current exhibit below is by Ryno of www.rynoart.com They are digitally manipulated photos, something I'm not always a fan of, but these all look great! It's a fun look when done well and printed up large.

Thanks for looking and I hope you all have a great weekend. Cheers!

My Top 10 Tahoe Area Photos of 2020

I shot many photo this year but I do believe it was a lot less than last year. Print sales have been great and I now sell out of two galleries. Art Obsessions in Reno, Nevada and Art Truckee in Downtown Truckee, California.  Despite this year's challenges, things have been going pretty well.

Here are my favorite top 10 images that I shot in 2020, in the order that they were shot:

1. I'll start with a couple puppy photos. It's not my usual subject matter but early in the year my family brought this little guy home and wow, has he taken up a lot of time... We love him and he's modeled for me many times now.

1. "Puppy in Snowy Sagehen Meadows 5" - Photograph of a Golden Retriever puppy "Quill" playing in the snow and Camas wildflowers at Sagehen Meadows, a little north of Truckee, California.

2. Here's another shot of Quill below. This image ended up as a cover shot on the August 2020 issue of Tahoe Weekly.

2. "Puppy Above Lake Tahoe 2" - Photograph of Golden Retriever puppy "Quill" above Lake Tahoe.

3. Boca Reservoir is a nearby spot that I brought the pup to many times over the spring and summer. This year, the little lupine wildflowers at the lake bloomed bigger than I had ever seen at the reservoir. Add and nice sunset and BAM! I love this shot.

3. "Lupine at Boca Reservoir Sunset 3" - Photograph of Lupine wildflowers growing along the shore at Boca Reservoir in Truckee, California.

4. I am very excited about a new art gallery in Reno, Nevada that I am selling prints out of, Art Obsessions.  I know, Reno is technically not Tahoe, but it my nearest city where I do much of my shopping.

It was a tough year for my friends to open a gallery... but the new shopping center and gallery are looking great and all the restaurants and other shops should be open in a few months. The photo below is the Rancharrah mansion, it is the "backdrop" to the shopping center, you can see the mansion from the shopping center's courtyard.

4. "Rancharrah Sunset 2" - Sunset photograph of the famous Rancharrah mansion in Reno, Nevada.

5. I love this Nevada shaped horse corral, it is located very near the Art Obsessions gallery. In fact, this sunset shot below was shot on the same evening as the Rancharrah sunset photo above. I was able to hop in the car and drive up to this spot before the amazing colors of this sunset disappeared. Downtown Reno can be seen in the distant left and the Rancharrah mansion can be seen in the right of the photo.

5. "Reno, Nevada Sunset 1" - Photograph of a Nevada shaped horse corral and Reno, Nevada shot at sunset.

6. I had a lot of fun with shooting abstracts in Reno and Truckee this year. This is a new temporary neon sign in Truckee that made for a great subject matter.

6. "Truckee Lights 1" - Photograph of the Truckee sign outside of Moody's Bistro Bar and Beats in Downtown Truckee, California. The abstract effect was obtained in camera by long exposure mixed with intentional camera movement.

7. Yup, I also had fun shooting abstracts of the fall colors up here in the Tahoe area. This one was my favorite of what I captured. My son wanted a canvas print of this one for his college dorm. Done, it looks great as a print!

7. "Autumn Abstract 1" - Photograph of Aspen trees at Paige Meadows, near Lake Tahoe in the fall. The abstract effect is achieved by intentional camera movement while hand holding the camera.

8. This is a spot I've driven by many many times over the last 18 years. I finally stopped and got some photos of it this fall. I'm glad I did! This one is another one that should look great as a very large print.

8. "Truckee River in Autumn 32" - Photograph of the Truckee River in the fall, shot off of Hwy 80, in California, just west of Nevada.

9. Fall is a great time of year for photography. The yellow and orange foliage makes for attention grabbing subject matter. Mix that with a little fresh snow and YES! I love how this photo turned out. The contrasting colors really make my eyes happy.

9. "Donner Lake in Autumn 15" - Photograph of fall foliage, snow, and a dock along the shore of Donner Lake in Truckee, California.

10. I'm finishing off the top ten list with this snowy Christmas photo in Downtown Truckee, California. It's an incredible location for photography during the holidays, Truckee really goes all out with the lights. It's tricky shooting in these kind of heavy snowy conditions but so worth it when you get a shot like the one below.

10. "Snowy Christmas Tree in Truckee 12" - Photograph of a snow-covered Christmas tree at night, during a snowstorm, in Historic Downtown Truckee, California.

Thank you for checking out my top 10 photos of 2020 list. I know it's been a tough year for many people, I hope you were all able to have a few highlights and beautiful moments in order to make things a bit easier.

Happy Hew Year and Cheers to 2021!

New Exhibit At Art Obsessions In Reno

I'm happy to announce that my photography prints are now available at Art Obsessions in Reno.  I've been represented by Art Obsessions previously when it was located in Truckee, California but they have recently moved to a brand new Village at Rancharrah shopping center in Reno, Nevada.

The art gallery is the first business in the Village to open, many more shopping and dining options will be available soon. The hours may be a bit inconsistent at first. You may want to check the website and give them a call before visiting. https://artobsessions1.com

Here are a few photos I've shot of the shopping center and of Art Obsessions. Hopefully I will see you at a gallery event soon!

Photos of Art Obsessions art gallery

Did you miss it? My exhibit at Art Obsessions art gallery a couple weeks ago was a lot of fun. I had many of my large 40"x60" canvas prints up and I thought the Jordan, the gallery director, did a great job with the hanging and presentation. So good that I decided to take a few photos of the exhibit and the rest of Art Obsessions.

I've sold my large photography prints out of Art Obsessions for a few years now. Art Obsessions used to be located on Commercial Row in Downtown Truckee but a while back they moved into the old Star Hotel building on West River Street. My big exhibit may not be in the "featured artist" area of the gallery any more but I still have many large prints available there year round. So please stop by and check it out in person, but in the meantime:

Scott Shots Prints, now available at the Vista Gallery in Tahoe Vista!

I have BIG NEWS to share. My Tahoe area Scott Shots Photography prints are now available at the Vista Gallery in Tahoe Vista

The Vista Gallery is a great gallery owned by Tony Spiker of Spiker Photography and his wife Melissa who does a great job running the gallery's social media presence. It has an incredible view of Lake Tahoe, but your eyes will likely be checking out the wonderful art. The artwork in the gallery includes Tahoe area photography from many local photographers, incredible paintings, sculptures, and more. They also have a full service frame shop in the gallery!

The frame shop is a great because I sell unframed prints there and on my website. The Vista Gallery has a huge selection of moulding and mats and they do quality work. You can find elegant expensive frames there or economical yet nice frames that compete on price with the bulk frame shops in the cities.

Also, soon... my work will be available for renting or "rent to own" at the Vista Gallery. This is perfect for Real Estate agents or interior decorators that stage homes, businesses or hotels that need large amounts of art but don't want to pay for it all at once, or fine art buyers that want to try out the art on their wall for a while before committing to buy.

Please stop by the gallery and check out my work and the other art there the next time you're in Tahoe Vista. You won't be disappointed!

Scott Shot prints now available at Art Obsessions in Truckee, CA

There's a new gallery in town. My favorite new gallery. It's not my favorite just because they sell my photography but because they exhibit some incredible work, from some incredible artists, in an incredible space.
Scott Thompson's exhibit at Art Obsessions in Downtown Truckee, CA.

Art Obsessions Gallery is the new must see spot in Downtown Truckee, California. It is located in a beautiful historic building that greatly enhances your art viewing experience.   They recently received their license to sell wine by the glass or bottle so you can even further enhance your viewing experience.  Plan on staying a while as there is a lot of art to view.

This past Friday, I set up a little demonstration for Truckee's First Fridays. I brought my camera and set up a "Beauty at the Bottom" photo shoot. "Beauty at the Bottom" is a popular series of photos that I shot down inside the mouths of wine, beer, or other spirits bottles. More info about that series can be found by Clicking Here. It was fun explaining this bizarre abstract art to people and I've been asked to demonstrate again. Look for me there during future First Fridays...

Scott Thompson's "Beauty at the Bottom" demonstration at the gallery.
Please enjoy a slideshow of the gallery below. The photos don't really do the vibe and feeling of the gallery justice, you'll just have to check it out for yourself. Please be sure to stop by the next time you're in Truckee, CA and check out my exhibit. I have many framed prints and canvas prints of Truckee and the Tahoe area on the walls as well as many unframed prints for sale ranging from size 8"x10" to 30"x40".  You can also order any of my prints there and not pay shipping.   For a list of other artists exhibiting at the gallery, please check their website www.ArtObsessions.com. They are located at 10052 Donner Pass Road, Truckee, CA. 96161 across from the downtown fire station. (530) 550-9688 www.facebook.com/artobsessions See you there, cheers!

New Lake Tahoe Photo Gallery added.

Yesterday I added a new photo gallery to my website. Well, actually I divided one gallery up into two galleries. I had a Lake Tahoe Sunsets and Sunrises gallery. Now I have a Lake Tahoe Sunsets Gallery and a separate Lake Tahoe Sunrises gallery. This is because I was getting too many images in the original gallery, a good problem to have. I've been out shooting even more Tahoe and Truckee sunrises lately, although it has been tough as the sunrise happens pretty early this time of year.  Please view the photos below for a few favorites.

Here's a couple links to the new galleries:

And here are some new Lake Tahoe sunrise photos and Tahoe fishing photos I've added to my website recently:

"Sunrise Fishing on Lake Tahoe 2" - This trolling fishing pole was photographed at sunrise on Lake Tahoe.  One of the motivating factors for getting up so early lately has been fishing. I have a good buddy with a fishing boat and I often get the invite. As you can see, fishing and photography go very nicely together.

"Tahoe Fishing Boat at Sunrise" - This silhouette of a fishing boat and fishing poles was photographed at sunrise on Lake Tahoe.  The boat is my fishing buddy's boat and I have spent many hours fishing and taking pictures of Tahoe from it. The fishing boat was loaded with gear and coolers, and the silhouette worked great to hide it all.

"Tahoe Sailboats at Sunrise" - These silhouettes of sailboats were photographed at sunrise on Lake Tahoe.  I captured this one from the dock, right as we were about to head out fishing for the day.

"Sunrise at Lake Tahoe 7" - This sunrise was photographed from a boat on Lake Tahoe.  As we were heading out of the buoy zone, the boat was moving slow so I was able to capture a few photos of a fiery but near cloudless sunrise.

"Sunrise at Lake Tahoe 6" - This sunrise was photographed from a boat on Lake Tahoe.   Taken at about the same time as the photo above, I zoomed out to the widest angle my 24-105 mm lens could go. I like this one a lot for the simple and abstract feel to it.

I've previously written a bit of a "how to" when it comes to photography from a small fishing boat on Tahoe. You can view the post here:  Fishing and Photography on Lake Tahoe  If you have any technical questions about the subject, please feel free to ask in the comments area below. Thank you!
